Stalled Labour

Labours can stall for a number of reasons, all seem to boil down to interruption of the woman's natural flow of labour. Interruptions can make for irregular, sporadic labours, and they can also disrupt labour severely enough to stop it.

Some women report that their contractions started once their children were in bed, and stopped by morning, only to resume later the next night after the kids were back in bed. Birth occured at night or in the early hours of the morning after a few days of labouring like this!

Coping With Stalled Labours

Examine any fears or expectations that may be holding your labour back.

Deal with any interruptions to your labour eg. find a carer for your children, ask visitors to leave etc.

Try relaxation techniques. Remove people or yourself from situations that are hindering you.

Take 5 calcium lactate tablets to aid relaxation and normal labour.

If not adverse to alcohol consumption, take a glass of beer or wine and have some quality time with your husband or partner.

10 drops of Liferoot tincture can re-establish labour. Take doses at 30 minute intervals.

If you can obtain it, chew bethroot/birthroot. It immediately begins contractions again.

10-20 drops of blue cohosh in a glass of water, repeating hourly as needed also helps with stalled labours. This herb does not cause irregular contractions or cervix clamping down and is used by many midwives.
